LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF WILLIAM UNDERWOOD
I, William Underwood, of the county of Knox and state of Ohio, being weak in body, but of sound and perfect mind and memory, do make and publish
this, my last Will and Testament, in manner and form following, viz:
First, it is my will and desire that my wife, Mary Underwood, shall have for her own, proper use and to assist her in rearing and supporting herself
and her three children, Isreal, Isaac and Jesse Underwood, the following property, viz: one black mare, two milch cows, on patent plough No. 3, one
pair horse gears (?), and all the household and kitchen furniture.
Secondly, it is my wish that the residue of my property (after the legal allowance is taken out for the support of the family) shall be sold by my
hereafter named executor and after all legal debts and funeral expenses are discharged, it is my wish that the money arising from the sale of said
property, together with the money in hand and all the notes, bonds and accounts in my possession be applied by my executor to the purchase of a
piece of land for the use of the family, and after said purchase is made and said land procured, it is my will that my wife shall have the management
of said lot of land and receive all the immunities therefrom so long as she shall remain in her widowhood, though not to be deprived at any time of
her legal right of dower. It is furthermore my wish that after my three children (Israel, Isaac and Jesse Underwood) shall have arrived at the age
of manhood, and after the death of my wife or the reliquishment of her claim, to said lot as the case may be, that the said lot or the money arising
from the sale of said lot or piece of land, as it may best suit, said property shall be equally divided between my three sons, Israel, Isaac and
Jesse Underwood, share and share alike, to them, their heirs and assigns forever.
Lastly, it is my wish and request and I do hereby nominate and appoint Mary Underwood and Jesse Willson jointly executrix and executor to this, my
last Will and Testament.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name, this 20th day of December, 1830
